Relationship between internal bond properties and x-ray densitometry of wood plastic composite

The objective of study is evaluate the relationship of internal bonding properties with the density profile-determined by X-ray densitometry technique, perpendicular tensile and screw-holding tests. The composite were manufactured by compression. Pinus elliottii and Swietenia macrophylla wood were used as raw materials, thermoplastic recycled and urea formaldehyde as adhesive. The impact of the maximum tension and the density of the composite samples of HDPE/Pinus elliottii, PP/Pinus elliottii and LDPE/Swietenia macrophylla is increased by more than 0.65 MPa and 950 kg/m?3. Relationship between density and internal bonding shown to have an effect inversely proportional. The best frequency is demonstrated for the mechanical properties of the PET/Pinus elliottii and PP/Swietenia macrophylla compounds. The results of the X-ray densitometry indicate stability in the thickness of the boards between 4 and 10 mm. The mechanical tests indicate that the improvement in mechanical properties is attributable to the formation of an interface between the thermoplastic matrix and the wood particles, mainly in the intermediate region of the composite; these results are verified by images of the electron microscopy. Observations made in the lateral cut region indicate a degradation of the fiber/matrix interface; specifically, this is as a result of the technological process that produces fault zones; this process also affects the properties of the composites.
